About CO.Film & Christina Olofson
CHRISTINA OLOFSON, is one of the most notable of contemporary Swedish filmmakers.
She works as director and producer and has her own production company, later called CO.Film, since 1974. She’s not afraid to go her own way, to experiment with new forms or deal with subject considered to be taboo.
She has directed and produced a number of feature films and feature length documentaries. She has been awarded many prizes for her films, and broadcasters throughout the world have purchased them.
Christina Olofson has held various board positions including the Swedish Film Institute, the Swedish Arts Grants Committee, Film Directors of Sweden, Women in Film and Television, Sweden, and vice president of FERA (Federation of European Film Directors).
She has received a number of grants and awards for instance in 1989 the Mauritz Edström scholarship and in 1993 a 10-year scholarship from the Arts Council.
CO.Film is a Swedish production company that has been active since 1990. It was founded by director and producer Christina Olofson, who has been creating films since 1974.
She has directed and produced a number of feature films and feature length documentaries. Her films has been awarded many prizes, and broadcasters throughout the world have purchased them.
Notable works include A Woman is a risky Bet – Six Orchestra Conductors (1987), Truth or Dare (1997) and A Different Way (2003). Recent works include The Steel-Iron-Grey Sky (2013).
Current Projects (2015)
Science, art and movie mix together in the project. The idea of this movie is to budge the image of life and subsistence, to broaden the horizons and to shatter the expected.
She is also working on a radio program about female conductors, for Sveriges Radio P2.
Production History
In the mid 70’s she set up the production company Hagafilm with Göran du Rées. They produced and directed shorts and feature films. Among the features were: The tent – Who owns this world? (1978), The Painter (1982), and Where (1983). The Painter was shown at La Semaine de la Critique, Cannes as well as at the Moscow Film Festival 1983.
Eventually Christina started her own production company, CO.Film, and directed and produced the features A Woman is a risky Bet – Six Orchestra Conductors (1987), which got awarded many prizes and was purchased by broadcasters throughout the world, Honey Wolves (1990) and Lines from the Heart (1996), which was the only Nordic contribution to the Venice Film Festival 1996.
One of her most noted documentaries is Darling Nina (1994) which deals with
the sexual abuse of children. It was shown at Vue sur le Docs, Marseille and the Amsterdam Film Festival.
Truth or Dare (1997) was nominated Best Feature Film, children’s section, at the Berlin Film Festival 1998, and received a Special Mention by the Children’s jury. The film was also nominated for a Guldbagge, Best Director and Best Script, and was awarded a Guldbagge 1998 for Best Script. In 1999 Christina Olofson received an award “Best Director” for Truth or Dare at the Film Festival in Poznan, Poland.
Happy End (1999) Harriet Andersson was nominated for a Guldbagge, Best Actress. In February 2001 her film Kattbreven/Touched by an Angel had its premier and it was extremely well received by the public as well as the critics.
In December 2003 Christina Olofson film A Different Way (2003) was be released. The film was nominated for European Film Awards, selected and screened in CinemaEuropa Viareggio, at the festivals in Haugesund, Copenhagen and Lübeck. It was also screened at Nuovo Cinema Svedese in Rome.
Since then Christina Olofson has continued to created film.
She has created short films like The Orange (2011) and I need you more than I love you and I love you to bits (2012), and many documentaries.
Recent documentaries include three art movies with artist Eva Dahlin (2008-2014), The Steel-Iron-Grey Sky (2013), and Anna Lindh – Her Life, Her Legacy, The Assassination (2013)
A new documentary is in production with the working title Secrets of Animal Anatomy.
